Design Stages

Pre-production Design

Design brief: an early (often the beginning) statement of design goals analysis of current design goals
Research investigating similar design solutions in the field or related topics

Specification: specifying requirements of a design solution for a product (product design specification  or service.

Problem solving: conceptualizing and documenting design solutions

Presentation: presenting design solutions

Design During Production

Development: continuation and improvement of a designed solution

Testing: in situ testing a designed solution

Post-production design feedback for future designs

Implementation: introducing the designed solution into the environment

Final Evaluation: conclusion summary of process and results, including constructive criticism and suggestions for future improvements

Redesign: any or all stages in the design process repeated (with corrections made) at any time before, during, or after production.
Product Development FAQ

Q: Do you sign NDAs?
A: Yes we do. We have samples but you can use your own NDA.

Q: How do you start the design process?
A: At Solaris every project starts with an evaluation. This service is free of charge and usually takes about a week. At the end of this period, we let our customers know if we take their project or not.

Q: How can I budget my project?
A: At the end of the evaluation period, we will give you an estimate.

Q: Do you sign contracts?
A: Yes we do.

Q: Do you help with patent procedures?
A: Patents are not our expertize. We can only help our clients on technical aspects. We can recommend law offices in DC area to our clients.

Q: Can you give insight on the marketability of the product?
A: Marketing is not our expertise and releasing information we cannot stand behind conflicts with our work ethics. We can only help our clients on technical basis. Marketing companies specialized on product development should be contacted for dependable results.

Q: How do you charge clients?
A: We either use hourly rates or charge our services on pre-agreed lump sum basis. Client is invoiced periodically. Remaining balance due at the end of the design process.

Q: Do you work with clients which are not local/Do you work with international clients?
A: Yes we do. We use online meeting technologies for meetings with non-local clients.

Q: Which payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept US bank checks, certified checks, cash. We also accept credit card payments for convenience but additional fees apply for credit card payments.

Q: How long does a project take to finish?
A: Depends on the project. Each project requires different amount of research and development. At Solaris Design, each project is handled through a specially customized process for the project.
